Q A Will Fainting Hurt Baby

It sounds like you have vasovagal syncope. This is a relatively common reaction to having your blood drawn. One study found that it occurs in 2 - 5 percent of patients who donate blood. If you do have vasovagal syncope, you should have your blood drawn when lying down. It won’t necessarily prevent you from fainting, but it will help keep you from injuring yourself if you do pass out. Hydrating with up to a half-liter of water prior to your blood draw may also help prevent these episodes....

Scheduling A C Section Or Induction Read This First

Terrible Twos What It Is And How To Deal

Refusing to wear a jacket in below-freezing temperatures. Saying “no” to everything. Throwing themselves face down on the ground. Sound familiar? Regardless of how old your little one is, these signs could be a clue that the so-called “terrible twos” have hit. And even though this phase may not be fun, it’s actually a great thing, experts say. “What a child is doing is testing boundaries, which is his way of figuring out right from wrong,” says Robin Jacobson, clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone in New York City....

Turns Out Parents Know Best When It Comes To Teaching Baby To Talk

Hey parents, don’t let ‘em tell you nothin’. Turns out, you’re doing it right: According to new research, baby talk is the leading way your adorable little babe is taking in (and learning!) language. So stress the hell outta those vowel sounds and get as high pitched as possible! Researchers at the University of Washington and the University of Connecticut examined thousands of 30-second snippets of verbal exchanges between parents and babies, measuring parents’ use of a regular speaking voice versus an exaggerated, animated baby talk style (baby talk) and whether speech occurred one-on-one between parent and baby or in a group setting....

Is Dizziness A Pregnancy Symptom

Like most of your symptoms, this one’s due, in part, to hormone and blood pressure changes. As baby continues to grow, the pressure your uterus places on blood vessels can add to the dizziness. Take care of yourself in basic ways — eat regularly and choose healthy snacks, drink lots of water, wear loose and comfortable clothing, get up slowly from sitting or lying down, try not to stand for long periods, don’t lie on your back during the second half of pregnancy, and avoid getting overheated — to keep dizziness at a minimum....

Q A What Is A D E

D&E (dilation and evacuation) is a minor surgical procedure which involves mechanically opening (dilating) the cervix and cleaning out (evacuating) the uterus. It may be performed after a missed abortion (the embryo or fetus dies, but no bleeding or cervical opening occurs) or inevitable abortion (the embryo or fetus dies, and painful or heavy bleeding occurs). If tissue from the pregnancy remains in the womb after miscarriage, it can cause heavy bleeding or infection — a D&E aims to avoid this....

Wardrobe Must Haves For Every Working Mom

I walked into work the other day, fresh off spending the last few hours with my 7-month old. I made the usual rounds, coffee in hand, chatting it up with the boss and co-workers. I suppose it was about two hours later when I shut the door to my office and settled in for a pumping session — I looked down as I unbuttoned my cardigan to see what I can only describe as Haley’s Comet traveling from my shoulder down the front of my black cardigan....
